F1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP |

The year 2005 heralded
a new history in Indian Motor sports. Narain
Karthikeyan made an impressive F1 debut for
team Jordan F1 at Melbourne on the 6th of
March being placed 12th on the grid with rain
making the qualifying a great one. |

Narain impressed the world
with a great drive till the end to finish
a creditable 15th place best for a rookie
that day. |
| |
The second race at Malaysia
saw Narain in his elements to finish at 11th
the best of his season after he had qualified
at 17th on the grid. |

At Bahrain, Narain had
a great qualifying in front of a hometown
population crowd and unfortunately was unlucky
to abort the race due to an electrical failure. |
| |
At San Marino he started
16th and ended up at 12th on the time sheets.
Barcelona saw him qualify at 13th and ending
up at the same 13th in the race. |

Monaco was a new circuit
and a challenging one but he had to retire
following a crash. In the European GP which
followed Narain finished at 16th. |

In the American continent,
he was unlucky at Canada and had to retire,
and a week later he was into points finishing
fourth at US GP. |

The European journey of
F1 saw him qualify at 17th and finishing at
15th at France, and retiring at Silverstone
the next weekend due to a mechanical failure. |

At Germany he finished
16th and at Hungary he finished up at 12th.
At the Turkish inaugural GP he finished the
race at 14th place and at Italy he finished
20th. Then at Belgium he finished 11th. |

At Brazil he completed
at 15th and at Japan he set the fastest in
the timesheets and was qualified at 11th the
best qualifying for the team and finished
15th. The last race saw some incredible pace
from Narain before he met with an enormous
crash and retired. |

A great new dawn in the
history of Indian motor sports. A real pace
setter with the team, Narain as the first
Indian F1 driver also marked the final season
of Jordan as a Team in F1 going into history
books. |

WORLD SERIES BY NISSAN |
| |
Raced at the World
Series by Nissan and had a successful outing
for the year signing off in splendid style. |

Won both the races
at Valencia, Spain the 8th round of World
Series by Nissan. He finished on top of the
podium in the first race and second in the
second race. |

Earlier he took the win
at Magny Cours, one of the toughest F1 venues
in May. |
| |
World Series by Nissan
is considered only next to Formula One. It
is from these races that lots of new contenders
arrive at the grid on F1. |

He also competed against
some of the best drivers in the world, some
former F1 drivers and some test drivers for
the F1 teams. |

Finished fourth in
the championship series with 5 podium finishes,
having competed with 22 best drivers in the
world representing 11 nations, some of them
Ex-Formula 1 drivers and current Formula 1
test drivers. |

Solid finishes and a fourth
place in the championship earned him a Test
drive with the Formula 1 team Minardi. |

TELEFONICA WORLD SERIES |

Finished the year as one
of the fastest drivers in the highly competitive
Telefonica World Series. He claimed one pole
position and set a fastest time ever in the
Interlagos circuit (other than F1). |

FORMULA ONE-TEST DRIVES |
| |
2001 was a watershed year
for Narain. He got behind the wheels of a
Jaguar R1 car on June 14, thus becoming the
first Indian to test a Formula One car. Impressed
with his performance, he was asked to test
drive the Benson & Hedges Jordan Honda
EJ 11. Both test drives were at Silverstone,
home of the British racing industry. Awed
by his performance in the first test, Narain
was asked to test for the second time with
the Jordan time at the Mugello circuit in
Italy. |

Narain was
one of the top rookie finishers at Japan’s
premier event, Formula Nippon. Other racing
greats who participated in this include Michael
Schumacher, Damon Hill, etc. |

FORMULA 3 CHAMPIONSHIP CLASS* |
| |
2000 saw Narain
build upon his experience for the big league
of racing. Continuing his drive in the British
F3 championship for the year 200, he ranked
fourth place overall. He was on a roll for
most of the season, a lap record and a finish
form pole at Macau grand Prix. Narain went
into history books and emulated his idol the
great late Ayton Senna of Brazil and also
many other current Formula 1 drivers like
Michael Schumacher, David Coulthard etc.,
by winning the International F3 race at the
Spa, Belgium and a world beating victory in
Korean F3 Super Prix. |

Driving in
the Autosport British Formula 3 championship,
Narain took to the podium five times. A few
important highlights of that season were:
Narain wining the Brands Hatch Race twice
(considered one of the most difficult racing
circuits). He also had two pole positions
and 3 fastest laps and 2 lap records. Finished
sixth in the championship among 30 drivers
from over 5 countries. The same year, Narain
also qualified in the sixth and finished the
second leg of the Macao grand Prix I the 6th
place. |

1996 saw him win the Formula
Asia championship with a host of records and
first in his kitty. He now was the only Asian
and also the only Indian to win Formula Asia
International series. |

FORMULA 4 CHAMPIONSHIP CLASS |
| |
Narain joins
the Formula Ford Zetec. He became the first
Indian to win the British Formula Ford Winter
Series, one of his many first. In the support
race to the Portuguese Grand Prix held at
Estoril, he was on podium celebrating. |
